Dave Matthews Band: The Live Releases - Part Four |
| Live Trax Vol. I – 12/8/98 (Online and Download release - 2004)
In the summer of 2004 the DMB site asked help from the fans. A new live series was going to be launched and the crew needed a title for the new live releases.
A selection was made from a suggestion simply titled as “Live Trax”. Of course, Trax being the name of club DMB performed weekly gigs at during their ’91 – ’93 years in Charlottesville, VA served as a double meaning.
Trax, meaning tracks(live tracks/performances) and Trax also served as a one word mission statement so to speak, saying these releases will also convey the roots of this band, the old shows, the legendary performances...

By the time 2003 rolled around fans were itching for another Dave and Tim release. It had been four years since anything D&T related was used for either a live album or a bonus cut. With Dave Matthews’ solo album, Some Devil, the crew answered the call from fans by putting together a companion disc that was a collection of random live performances of the freshly settled ’03 D&T tour.
Also, answering further demands of Warehouse Fanclub members receiving special treatment for years of loyalty, the crew put together three different versions of this compilation bonus disc.

Continues from last week's Dave Matthews Band: The Live Releases - Part One
To coincide with the growing number video collection DVD’s by numerous acts, Dave Matthews Band released one of their own in August of 2001. “The Videos 1994 – 2001”, hosted the band’s classic videos, Ants Marching, Crash Into Me, Don’t Drink The Water, Crush, and more. A collection wouldn’t have been complete without commentary by some of the directors of each video. Some went on to even say Dave would (could) go on to become a great actor someday and pointed out random hints of the prediction...

7. Sex Machine - 12/21/02 (James Brown & Karl Denson's Tiny Universe)
Another aspect of a great guest performance is the element of surprise. There may have been a small buzz through some fans about Brown's appearance but to the majority of the fanbase and those at this show, had no clue. DMB have played with Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, The Grateful Dead, Buddy Guy, Paul Simon, Al Green, Neil Young...they've played with a great amount of legends but there is only one collaboration on stage with a legend that shocked, enlightened, and filled the fans with such energy that it's performance is still considered one of if not the greatest ever witnessed from this band's live career...

16. Recently - 11/27/93 (w/ Warren Haynes)
With an acoustic, Warren steps up and rips some of the slickest licks Recently has ever been graced with. A strong performance followed by a jam with a veering arrangement lead by Warren. His additions were so strong they dictated where the jam would begin, how it would go, how long it would be and where it would end. Carter's strength grew month after month in the early days and in this performance with the jam being so flush with mixtures from Roi, Boyd and Warren, Carter was throwing in strong rolls and fills which gave the climax a screaming jump. Even Roi was copying Warren's arrangement in the jam. A fantastic performance, from beginning to end...

LeRoi Moore: The Influence of a Woodwind Master
By Jake Werkmeister
|
Most people know LeRoi Moore as the saxophonist for the Dave Matthews Band. If you are a DMB fan, you probably know LeRoi as the band member who says few words, and the one who hides in the shadows whenever he has nothing to play.
What you may not know is how this seemingly humble man has single-handedly changed the way that a saxophonist is perceived in a rock band. In order to understand Roi’s impact on the saxophone world, we must first understand his role in the Dave Matthews Band.

“Hello Again” (the tune formerly known as “New Song #3”), did not take the focus of my attention as much as its sister songs that premiered on June 17th.
I found out where this bouncing pick-up truck ride down a dusty road in the south was taking us with help from the lyrics to DMB's Hello Again...

April 17th, 2004 |

Ballard is a legendary songwriter and record producer, who was mentored by Quincy Jones and wrote music for Michael Jackson. These accomplishments aside... (Continued)
