Default RIP - LeRoi Moore - 1961-2008, Part 2

The original thread that was created for Roi reached over 1,300 posts. Because it is hard to navigate threads with that many posts, the original thread has been closed and this second thread opened. Please continue to comment in this new thread.

Please see this sticky for links to other Roi related threads.

I'm sure it's been posted before, but from the road page...

Quote:
We are mourning our fallen brother. As we sat this afternoon, contemplating the news we had just received, we wondered how we could possibly do a show today. Dave put it into perspective stating, "There's no place I'd rather be than here with you guys right now." We cherish special memories of our lost friend. Tonight, Dave told a story about LeRoi at a bar in Virginia where the cash register was near the stage, and LeRoi leaned on the register because "standing had become a chore" and then played the most beautiful version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow. Dave said, "that was the day I fell in love with him." It's safe to say we all were in love with him. "It's always easier to leave, than to be left." -DM

I am still having a hard time believing he's actually dead.

I know this sounds pathetic, but I think I've cried more due to LeRoi's death than I did after surviving the NIU school shooting. Not sure if the shock is different, but I have definitely shed more tears hearing this news.

Wow. I'm truly at a loss for words. Roi was the sound that hooked me to DMB in the first place. I could always count on his beautiful music to pick me up when I needed it, and I'm not sure that I can listen to any DMB song the same way ever again.

I may not have known LeRoi, but I felt a connection with him through his music. He has reached and touched so many more people than he could have possibly known in his all too short time with his. His presence will be missed, but his beautiful music and his influence will live on and continue to impact people in his absence.

Thank you for everything you've done for the world LeRoi - you will be sorely missed.

I heard the news early this morning and I still cannot believe it. All day at work I couldn't wait to come to this site, so I could "be" with others who loved him and understand the pain of this. I am praying for his family, the band and for all of us who were touched by him and feel his loss so strongly. I really don't know what else to say.

this is awful. i feel as though i lost a close friend. i dont deal with death very well anyway, but i am amazed how hard this has hit me. i never met the guy, but i feel like every summer for the last 14 years we all hung out together. and now, no matter what happens, he is gone. i always have a hard time with that. gone. forever. especially at 46. not fair at all. on the piedmont park dvd from atlanta, the band and the crowd sang happy birthday to roi and dave made the comment that "tonight he was 22". who in the world thought that that would be his last birthday?? i guess he will be 22 forever. bottom line i am very sad and i miss my friend.

keep listening to his music and never forget the man.

thanks roi.

and thanks to all of you. without this board, i would be even more of a mess.

It is amazing to me that this is affecting us all to this extent (in a good way) Tears are being shed and confusion is all around us - it will be a long time before we are able to take a step forward.

To lose someone most of us have not even met - but yet someone who has affected us all in such a big way at one point or another. A sad day indeed for our community.

He is a genius. A phenomenal musician. And to say he will be missed is such a huge understatement. Part of the band will be missing forever. I am so thankful for the tapes and videos we have and those we have yet to share, so that Roi will be only missed and never forgotten. (as if that would even be a possibility... at least he will not be in my book)

Like Dave said last night - It is easier to leave than to be left.
