Default Robert Randolph on next album?

In the rhyme and reason newsletter, debbie said:

robert randolph (steel pedal guitar) will be joining DMB in the studio along with producer mark batson early in 2006, according to my new edition of rolling stone. robert will also be working on his own new album and contributing to daniel lanois' upcoming release.

I seem to remember people having pretty favorable opinions of rr's guest appearances with the band this past summer, but idk about on an album... what do you all think?

(I don't think anyone has posted about this yet *crosses fingers*)

i enjoy what randolph adds to the mix. hopefully it'll be just a few songs that he appears on, otherwise it might be overkill.

I have read this in a couple of different places but have still been trying to see something official to know if it is fact or rumor. Do you have a link for where you got that? As for me, I'm hoping it is true on SOME songs - not the entire album. I like what he adds to certain songs.

Thanks everybody for coming. I hope that I've played just the right amount and not too much which is kinda hard for me cuz usually I play too long and so I just wanted to say thank you..and for all the times that I didn't quite hit it I apologize, and for the times that were truly tremendous and almost from the far beyond..for those times..you're welcome! Here is the blurb as it reads in my current issue of Rolling Stone.

Robert Randolph
Where: Nashville
Due Out: April

Pedal steel guitarist Robert Randolph has drawn up and eclectic list of confirmed (Eric Clapton) and hoped-for guests (Lauryn Hill, Maroon 5, the Roots and Gretchen Wilson) for his untitled second studio album. "It's like making a pot of spaghetti," say Randolph." "A lot of different spices make up that sauce." Currently recording in Nashville with gospel producers Tommy Sims and Pete Kipley, Randolph will eventually head to Toronto to cut tracks with Daniel Lanois before finally hitting L.A. for sessions with Dave Matthews Band producer Mike Batson.

That is all that I read unless there is something else in that issue that I am missing.

hmm. that doesn't make it sound like he is recording with dmb - it only says he's going to see their producer, right? maybe they heard good things about him from dmb on the road so he's going to try doing some work with him? Maybe debbie misunderstood it (or maybe I'm misunderstanding it

That's how it sounds to me, but it would be cool if RR recorded with DMB, but i have not seen any official word on that, just that he will be recording with producer Mark Batson on his own album.

I would like a couple songs but not that whole thing. I don't want the whole album to sound like Louisianna Bayou, I want the album to sound like pre-Everyday

Yes one or two songs would be fine, but the whole album would be overkill and would take away from the rest of the band.

robert randolph is great live. he guests on a few songs, and it sounds phenominal.

he need to stay as far away from the studio with dmb as possible

his sound is amazing, and overpowering. when he plays live, the songs showcase him, which is to be expected in a live show. but if you have him on an album, it will be less about dave, lerio, carter, boyd, stefan (and butch!) and more about the pedal steel.

keep robert randolph live
