Dave and Tim to Play Fifth Annual Kokua Festival
Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds have been confirmed to play the 5th annual Kokua Festival at the Waikiki Shell in Honolulu, Hawaii April 19th and 20th. They will share the stage with Kokua Foundation founder Jack Johnson along with local favorites Paula Fuga, Go Jimmy Go and Mason Jennings. This marks the first time Dave has ever played in the state of Hawaii.
In addition to the eclectic mix of musical performers festival attendees can also experience many products and services offered by “green” companies, alternative energy demos, interactive games and crafts for the kids as well as local food and beverages.
This year's festival promises to raise the environmentally friendly concert bar by offering eco friendly merchandise; services such as bike valet, an electric trolley, free water stations, zero waste collection sites and other environmentally conscious innovations will be available.
The message and purpose of the Kokua Festival appears to be right up Dave and the band's alley as they practice what the festival and foundation preach.
In addition to performing at the worldwide Live Earth event and DMB's role with the NativeEnergy organization, Dave and wife Ashley have been using the green conscious cloth diaper as opposed to the more convenient disposable type. Matthews was quoted as saying "We use cloth diapers for our new baby because I think diapers might be the No. 3 piece of garbage [in terms of environmental damage]."
There will be a special internet pre-sale through Ticketmaster for the festival beginning Feb.13th and ending Feb.15th. Ticket prices are: $50.00 reserved seating, $125.00 for the seated pit area,$40.00 general admission/lawn, $20.00 general admission children ages 3-12 and children under age 3 are free.
The Kokua Foundation is a non profit organization that supports environmental education in the schools and communities of Hawaii.
