DMB Wins Planet Defenders Award

Dave Matthews Band Wins Planet Defenders AwardRock The Earth, a Colorado-based environmental organization, recently announced that DMB has received the 2008 Planet Defender Award in the artist category. Andrew Winston, founder of Andrew Winston Strategies, and Karen Cragnolin, Executive Director of RiverLink, also won the same award in different categories.

The recipients of the Planet Defender Award are nominated by Rock the Earth members, and are chosen by Rock The Earth's volunteer Staff.

DMB has been praised by the organization for its efforts in trying to create a better environment while touring. Through practices such as setting up carpooling to concerts, purchasing carbon credits, selling eco-friendly merchandise, and Stefan's creation of Reverb, the band has earned a reputation for being environmentally friendly. The band was also recognized for playing non-profit benefit concerts such as their historical show at Piedmont Park last summer.

Dave Matthews has also been highly active through his solo efforts, as he is on the Farm Aid board, and also preforms at the festival every year. The Seeds Of Compassion concert for the Dalai Lama, and Jack Johnson's Kokua Festival also made Dave's environmental background more impressive.

"Dave Matthews Band is in a fortunate position to play to many fans on tour," says Stefan Lessard. "This allows us to spread a positive environmental message to hundreds of thousands of people in a fun concert setting."
