New Soundcheck Leak of Unreleased Song: "Run While We Can"

Update 12/3/08: A second soundcheck of Run While We Can has recently leaked to the web. You can view that video here. The song was in regular practice in 2007, but its current status is unknown. Read on for the previous leak about the song, Run While We Can:
The song "Run While We Can" aka "Run While You Can" isn't new, but the recording from the Vegas soundcheck certainly is. The song recieved wide-spread sharing this past weekend and was apparently recorded by someone who had access to MGM Arena prior to the shows. See the empty almanac entry on "Run While We Can."
Weekly Davespeak shot photos from the photo pit that weekend. Most of these photos are available for high-resolution download. Check them out.
Sound checks are a frequent source for new DMB material, as the band typically will rehearse songs before playing them live during these sessions. Not all songs performed during soundcheck make it into a public performance or recording.

Dave Matthews Band Promotes Online Petition Addressing Medical Care for Veterans
Dave Matthews Band sent out a two paragraph newsletter this afternoon about the medical care received by American troops returning from duty abroad. The complete text of the newsletter is as follows:
"We have been disturbed by the stories that continue to surface about the medical care being received by our returning servicemen and women. Supporting our troops entails providing them with the complete, timely and excellent care for injuries they sustained during their military service, at the very least. Providing this care is a moral obligation for our nation and should be our highest priority at home. For further information and to read the petition that we will ultimately send to the Secretary of Defense and members of Congress, click here.
We hope you will join us in encouraging the Secretary of Defense and members of Congress to report on medical care benefits for US Veterans of War."

DMB Covers Billy Preston's "Nothing For Nothing"

Preston is one of the few people considered to be the fifth Beatle and in fact is the only non-beatle to have recieved credit for his performance on a Beatle record. According to the Washington Post there were arguments during the Beatles' "Get Back Sessions" between Lennon and McCartney about making Preston a member of the band, with Lennon advocating for Preston.
