"Do it for Fenton" and the DKE Fraternity Show
February 2nd, 2004

Perhaps the most famous fraternity show Dave ever played was at at the Delta Kappa Epsilon's, Eta Chapter at the University of Virginia on Sept. 11th, 1992. Dave performed solo in the afternoon and was accompanied by soundman Fenton Williams.

For more in depth information about Fenton and DMB history, we suggest the book:
Step Into The Light: New Revised Second Edition. Buy it today for less than a few well drinks!

This show is famous for a few reasons. First, it was first time Dave played four big DMB songs, including Ants Marching, solo . It was also the third and final performance ofthe song Once on a Wild Afternoon aka Destiny. But what really puts this show in the history books was Dave's improvisational blues jam of "The Penis Song."

Over the course of the show, Dave made repeated references to a girl in the audiance Do It For Fenton!with a penis drawn on her hand. This was probably only a shape used by security to indicate she was invited to the party and could drink alcohol. It is believed though uncertain that the above sticker is a reference to Dave's antics at this show.

For the first time, we've made available all of the show's Davespeak about the 'penis on the hand.' The following quote is assembled from clips between multiple songs from the show and spliced together as one wonderful davespeak.

"Aiejdugaiyuhh. This young lady has a penis drawn onto her hand. There's a penis on this woman's hand. Does everyone have a penis on their hand? Is that like a signal, you're the life of the party: 'You can't drink--you have a penis on your hand!' I'll be over to kiss it later.

I just found out that uhm, uh. The penis on this young lady's hand is, Its Fenton's penis. Fenton's right over here. I'm going to do dancing nancies because, uh--again cause uh, cause Fenton's dick's on this woman's hand. What, where'd she go? Where'd the woman with the penis on her hand go? There was a woman here with a penis on her hand. Do you also have a penis on your hand?"

During the show an audiance member repeatedly calls out for Dave to play 'the blues.' Dave replies that he can't do that. But eventually fulfills the request by by playing an improvisational Blues Jam, known as "The Penis Song" Lyrics for this nice little ditty can be found here.
