1998 was a landmark year in DMB's history, the release of Before These Crowded Streets on 4/28/98 landed the album in the #1 position on the Billboard charts.
DMB took the stage at Victory Stadium after long opening sets from Robert Braley's Blackwater Surprise and Bruce Hornsby. The longer sets were in part a stalling tactic for DMB as rain was falling heavily on the area.
This was the first show of the tour in support of Before These Crowded Streets, (BTCS). The album would result in a Grammy nomination for Crush and, as of RS 940, Dave's favorite recorded album.
The seating for the show was general admission, and the wet bodies were packed in tightly at the front of the stage. Not every show can be a wonderful. Mr. Matthews must have detected the poor conditions and spirits of the crowd, as he provided a string of Davespeak throughout the show.
