We're In The Middle Of a Bloody Show!
July 12th, 2004

DMB UnpluggedOn September 30th, 1992 DMB was playing a show at Flood Zone in Richmond, Virginia. Carter had hurt his hand, and could only sing backup vocals. (See Stefan's Hand Injury)

Over the course of this two set show, the late Miguel Valdez did his best with some maracas, a triangle and what sounds like a coconut.

Given the fact that the new DMB album is supposed to be built around Carter, this show stands out for its lack of percussion. Check out this version of Minarets, with Miguel Valdez playing his coconut and triangles.

This week's Davespeak includes some beatboxing from Carter, listen for it. Special thanks to Mike for the tip about Carter's Hand.

Dave:

"Carter Beauford, sporting a BET jacket over here, was here, but now he's over there. And all the shit he was sitting behind was here, and we don't know where the fuck that is."

Carter:

"And the bongos are gone too."

Dave:

"So you can all treat this like some kind of uh, rock and roll star unplugged little whammy-jammy. We wouldn't like to take ourselves that seriously, but because of circumstances out of our control we're going to take ourselves that seriously. And this evening's going to be a dominantly acoustic event.

Boyd Tinsley on the violin ladies and gentlement this evening. In the position that he often, often is.

And I'm standing where I usually am sporting a new L.L. Bean Jacket from the Bayou Station. I also bought these pants, and these sneakers my sound man was kind enough to tell me are completely inappropriate for this outfit. I'm wearing my Air Moabs.

Carter: "I think there's a hat in the back if you want to contribute to the heating bill. Just ask the bartender"

Dave: "Thank you all very much for coming out, I hope you don't feel inclined immediatly to leave the room because you won't be hearing hte bmmpfff and the bishhh as much as you did last week.

(Carter Beat Boxes.)

Dave: "Ladies and gentlemen, the Dave Matthews Band unplugged."
